Product Description

End-Post Hardware That Makes a Temporary Fence Work

A temporary fence is only as good as its ends. The strainer is the piece that converts a loose length of poly rope into a taut, conductive line, and it is the part most often left out of a starter order.

electric temporary fence strainer for poly rope

What it does

The strainer is fitted at the first or last post of a run. The rope or braid is threaded through, and turning the body winds the conductor in until the line is tight. Because the unit holds tension mechanically, the fence stays firm while stock lean on it and can be released quickly when the paddock is finished.

Compatibility and use

FitsPoly rope and braid
PositionStart or end post of the run
OperationManual wind, no separate tool
ReuseReleased, moved and refitted
MountingAttaches to standard temporary posts

Setting a run correctly

Anchor the far end first, walk the conductor out along the line without dragging it through grass, then fit the strainer and wind up the slack. Press the wire at mid-span to check: a firm line deflects a little and returns. Over-tensioning a temporary fence pulls posts out of the ground, especially on soft ground after rain.

Keeping the circuit alive

Check that the conductor contacts the metal of the strainer cleanly. A rope that has been knotted and re-knotted at the same point will lose conductivity there; trim the end and re-terminate instead of adding another knot.

Storage

Temporary fencing is stored wet and muddy for most of the year. Rinse the strainer, dry it, and hang it with the reels rather than leaving it on the ground where it will be driven over.

Ordering

Supplied as an individual unit or in packs sized for a farm kit. Pair with tensioners for long runs and with insulators at steel posts.

Tell us the type of rope you use and the number of runs in your rotation, and we will confirm the quantity of strainers and reels for the system.
