Small propeller fans move air around themselves. A fan with a 1.83 m blade moves the air in the whole building. That difference is what makes this unit worth its frame: at 345 rpm the blade tips run a long way per revolution but slowly per second, so the fan shifts a large volume of air without the high-frequency noise and draught that small high-speed fans produce.

Why a brushless permanent magnet motor

In a conventional direct-drive fan the motor runs at grid frequency and wastes energy as heat in the rotor. A permanent magnet brushless motor with electronic commutation is roughly 10 per cent more efficient at the same duty, which on a barn fan running 4,000 hours a year is the difference between an acceptable electricity bill and a painful one. There are no brushes to dust the windings with carbon and no centrifugal switch to fail.
