Every dairy has a pre-milking routine and a post-milking routine, and mixing them up is a hygiene failure that is easy to make and hard to spot. Colour coding the cups solves it at almost no cost.

Material choice

The cap is moulded in PP for chemical resistance and thread strength; the body is PE so it flexes under hand pressure without splitting at the shoulder. Together the pair survives daily contact with iodine, chlorine and acid-based dips, plus the occasional drop onto a concrete floor.

A red cup for pre-dip and a blue cup for post-dip removes the verbal reminder from a busy milking session and makes training new staff straightforward. Colour also helps when several parlours share a chemical store, or when one shed runs a different product from another.

Filling and handling

Pour to the graduation rather than estimating; the 300 ml body is marked for a reason. Keep the cup upright on its hook between cows so the dip stays in the reservoir, and empty and rinse at the end of each session rather than topping up a part-used cup the next morning.

Storage hints

Do not leave dip in the cup overnight in frost; the body hardens and the shoulder can crack on the first squeeze. Rinse and invert to drain, and store away from direct sunlight if the parlour has south-facing windows.
